“I have accounts with Host Gator and had accounts with Blue Host. Both are pretty much the same as far as hosting your websites. Download speed for visitors, server up time, etc. The difference is in the customer service.
Had a problem with Blue Host and their customer service is not good. Less than helpful cs rep caused me to change to Host Gator the next day. Host Gator transferred all my websites from Blue Host for free and resolved any problems that came up in the transfer.
That was 3 years ago. Over the years I have had problems in using too much resources on the account, and some file corruption problems, but cs at Host Gator have been helpful in resolving all issues.
I think because I have so many affiliate blogs, they think I know what I am doing (I heavily outsource) and they will send me emails using words I have heard before, but have no idea what they are talking about. They have never snickered or laughed when I would call and say “Hey guys, you sent me this response to my ticket and I don’t know what you are saying and don’t understand what you are asking me to do.
Every time, they would either walk me thru the procedure or do it for me.
I had 4 shared hosting accounts and am now moving to a VPS hosting account, and they have been very helpful all the way. IMHO, they’re the best!”

also, Ive experienced a horror story with blue host. A client with a decent sized site, high end medical data service, over 300 pages, PR5, lots of traffic. The site was having horrible load times, we were scrambling trying to figure out what the problem was… until it was finally set to ‘account suspended’. How horrible did that look to their clients? No alert, no warning email. just suspended… because the site did what it was supposed to, it got traffic, and their servers couldnt handle that kind of load. They switched to hostgator and havent had a problem since. ”
“I’ve only used HG of the two, but I’ve had good support when I needed it. Oddly, I started out with a hatchling monthly account and got upgraded to baby somewhere without asking for it. It’s okay, though, because I can and have put multiple domains on my account. My main site ( see link in my sig) is a general information site, so it is pretty large, which may have been the impetus of the upgrade. It works out in my favor by preventing me from having to pay for a hatchling and a baby account at the same time. ”
